Health and Safety at work

Part 1:-

It is the policy of our Practice to take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety, health and welfare of all our employees.

To achieve the required conditions, the following will be undertaken:-

We will create, so far as is reasonably possible, safe areas of work.

We will provide all necessary supervision, training and information to ensure, so far as is reasonably possible, the safety, health and welfare of all employees, whilst at work.


Lews Castle College – Stornoway

Every effort will be made to ensure that any equipment, supplied by the Practice for the use of employees, shall be maintained in safe condition.

The Practice has set up a structure within its organisation to ensure that this Policy will be put into operation and effectively maintained.

All reasonable steps shall be taken to protect members of the public who could be at risk by the activities of employees carrying out work on behalf of our Practice.

Part 2:-

Safety Officer

Mr D Marmion has the overall responsibility for the Health and Safety at Work Policy of the Practice and shall ensure all members of staff involved in the operation of this Policy shall carry out the duties allocated to them in an efficient manner.

Mr D Marmion also has the responsibility to ensure that all members of staff attending sites are familiar with hazards involved with certain types of works and places of work and to instruct staff on the necessity of the use of safety equipment and in complying with the requirements of Health and Safety procedures.

Staff

Our staff are fully informed of the Practice’s Policy and are expected to co-operate fully with us in its implementation. If any staff member encounters a hazardous or potentially hazardous situation they should report same to Mr D.Marmion.

Staff are expected to abide by all conditions as detailed in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

It shall be the duty of all members of staff while at work:-

To take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected.

Whilst on sites, it is the duty of all members of staff to ensure that adequate safety clothing is used and, at all times, safety helmets are worn.

Duty not to Interfere with or Misuse Things Provided Pursuant to Certain Provisions

No member of staff shall intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of safety, health or welfare in pursuance of any of the relevant statutory provisions.

Part 3:-

This policy has been compiled to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act.

It is the intention of our Practice to make every effort to conform to this Act, and other relevant safety legislation and try, as far as is reasonably possible to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all our members of staff. To achieve this end, it is essential that all staff co-operate fully in its implementation.
