Erskine Hospital, Bishopton

Client: Erskine Hospital
Location: Bishopton
Value: £1,800,000
Project: Reid McEwan Training & Conference Centre

Erskine Hospital was opened on October 10th 1916, to care for military personnel injured during World War 1. Erskine Stable Block is located at the Bishopton side of Erskine Hospital and has for many years been in a state of ruin together with the adjacent piggery and kennel block.

A major refurbishment project was therefore undertaken to these Grade B Listed buildings. As part of the renovation works, we were appointed to undertake the M+E Services Design associated with the Stables and Kennels Blocks, including the renovation of the Kennels to an Administration Office and the conversion of the Stables to a Training and Conference Centre. The latter was named after Sir John Reid who was the Vice President of Erskine Hospital from its foundation until 1933 and William MacEwen, an eminent Scottish surgeon, who was the driving force behind Erskine Hospital.
