Although Castle Rock is believed to have been the site of early forts, the magnificent buildings which remain were constructed during the late 1400’s and the 1500’s. These buildings were planned and built for the courts of James IV, James V and James VI.

Throughout the 1990’s Historic Scotland were implementing a phased refurbishment programme at the site as well as the introduction of various visitor facilities. We were initially commissioned to undertake the M+E services design associated with the refurbishment of the King’s Old Building, which presently houses the regimental museum of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

This commission was then extended to include Phases 1, 2 and 3 of Historic Scotland’s refurbishment program which included the Guardhouse, the Queen Anne Casemates, the Medieval Kitchen, the Chapel Royal and elements of the main Palace Building.
